News Wrap: Call to Investigate Druid Hill Gun Incident; Baltimore Fashion Week Begins

Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake asked Interim Police Commissioner Kevin Davis to investigate why a city police officer pointed his gun at dirt bike riders in Druid Hill Park on Sunday. The bike riders reportedly threw a glass bottle at the officers. 

Freelance photographer Noah Scialom captured the scene, posting a photograph of the police officer on Instagram. According to WBAL news, Rawlings-Blake says she was "very concerned" when she saw the photo. The unidentified officer has been placed on administrative duty. 

Key Member of Mosby’s Team Resigns

Joshua Roseblatt, the head of the newly formed Criminal Strategies Unit, is resigning. Rosenblatt has held the job in prosecutor’s office for less than eight months. Reasons for his departure are unclear. States Attorney Marilyn Mosby’s office says he will be replaced by homicide prosecutor Charles Blomquist.

City To Settle Lawsuits Against Police 

The city of Baltimore is expected to authorize payments to settle three different lawsuits that allege police misconduct.  The Baltimore Sun reports that the settlements total $280,000 in payments, and are expected to be finalized today.  The largest is a payment of $150,000 to settle a case brought by David Yim. In 2012, a police officer shot Yim, who suffers from mental illness, during an arrest.

Highlandtown Business Rebounds From Rioting 

Sneaky Feet, a Highlandtown shoe store that had its inventory decimated during April's unrest, is open again.  The business reopened a couple months earlier than expected, thanks to assistance from the business's insurance company as well as the city and state.  Six employees are able to return to their jobs. 

Health Centers To Improve Primary Care 

Health Care for the Homeless and Total Health Care in Baltimore are gearing up to improve primary care services.  The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded nearly $3 million dollars to be distributed to underserved communities.  The funds are part of Affordable Care Act money. 

Baltimore's Fashion Week Kicks Off Tonight 

A kickoff party tonight at the Pier Five Hotel marks the start of Baltimore Fashion Week. The gathering runs from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m., with many of the designers and boutique owners taking part in the eighth annual fashion showcase. Fashion Week events continue through Sunday. 

Man Rescued From Silo 

A man in northeast Cecil County has been rescued after getting trapped inside a grain silo. It is unclear how the man became trapped.  Firefighters and paramedics arrived at the farm outside of Elton this morning. The man was taken to a hospital and is recovering. 

Tillman Returns to the Mound in Tonight’s Orioles v. Mariners Game

The Orioles continue their series with the Mariners tonight at Safeco Field. Pitcher Chris Tillman returns to the mound after suffering an ankle injury.  Tillman is 2-and-0 with an 0.38 ERA in his three starts since the All-Star beak. Seattle is countering with Taijuan Walker, who is 8-and-7 with a 4.67 ERA this season. The first pitch is at 10:10 p.m..
