Family Says Murder Suspect Suffers From Mental Illness

Baltimore Police Department
Mausean Carter

In an Exclusive Interview, Earl Carter Jr.  spoke with WEAA’s Julius White,  about his brother, Mausean Carter’s  mental capacity and offered condolences to the families of those injured and killed, allegedly at the hands of his little brother.

Baltimore police say a man has been jailed without bond after being arrested Friday, accused of shooting several people throughout the city. Investigators say 30- year old Mausean Carter is also a suspect in a triple shooting in which one person died and two other wounded. Carter formally charged with 1st degree murder, 2nd degree murder, reckless endangerment, attempted 1st degree murder, attempted 2nd degree murder, as well as, varying degrees of assaults and weapons charges. Reports say Carter allegedly fired randomly from his car during police chase through the city Friday, shooting and wounding two people. Investigators say an officer also sustained a "significant leg injury"---before the suspect's girlfriend pulled him out of the car and police took him into custody, but it's not clear how the officer was injured.

On Twitter, Baltimore Police Media Relations Chief, T.J. Smith said

Mausean Carter’s  “Girlfriend likely knows he’s coming to intersection, runs to car and pulls him out. Officers then quickly move in and arrest suspect. Car still in gear runs into curb. Suspect continued to flee. We later found that he was in communication w/ his girlfriend. She was asking him to surrender. They communicate and meet near Gwynns Falls/Reisterstown.  In total, 1 person shot last week, 3 last night, 2 today, and 2 others “shot at” and at least 2 police officers “shot at” appear to be all related to this suspect. We were able to determine that this suspect/suspect vehicle are related to a non-fatal shooting from last week on Edmondson Ave and a triple shooting last night on Poplar Grove where one man died. All victims are adult males.”
