Car crashes into school building, injures six people including 5 children
The Baltimore City Fire Department says a call came in just after 10:30 Friday morning, and the firefighters responded to the 2900 block of Barclay Street for a car crashing into the side of Barclay Elementary School.
BFD spokeswoman Blair Skinner said once on the scene, firefighters discovered a small SUV had indeed slammed into the building. “Six people were injured—including five children and 1 adult, who was the driver of the vehicle,” said Skinner. “From what we know right now, the driver was suffering from some sort of medical emergency.”
Skinner said all of the children who were injured were taken to area hospitals for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The adult, male driver was taken to a hospital and his injuries were also non-life threatening. It’s unknown what type of medical emergency the man suffered. Skinner says the school was never placed on lock down, and school remained in session and building’s structure appeared to be safe. “Right now, it appears [the building] doesn’t appear there’s any potential for collapse and there’s no threat to the rest of the school children,” said Skinner.
