Council approves proposal to prevent sale of city's water, sewer system

The Baltimore City Council has approved a proposal to prevent the sale of the city's water and sewer system.  The proposal was spearheaded by City Council President Jack Young, as private corporations have showed interest in the city's water system.

Mayor Pugh supports the proposal and says privatization is not an option.

“It has never been an option under this administration,” said Pugh. “I am grateful that this charter amendment is being introduced. It is something that we proposed earlier-- because we realize how important this water system is to the citizens of Baltimore.”

The mayor says she is determined to do everything possible to protect it and ensure that it remains reliable, clean, and plentiful.  If the mayor signs the resolution by August 13th, the charter amendment will make it on the November ballot.
