The National Weather Service says an EF-1 tornado hit Columbia, Maryland during yesterday's severe afternoon storms. The twister snapped trees and removed part of the roof from an office building. The National Weather Service will return to the area today for a more detailed survey of the damage. In one case, a tree fell through a home, splitting it in half and leaving one person with minor injuries. Howard County Executive Calvin Ball says the storms knocked out power to more than nine-thousand residents.
