There were at least six shootings over the weekend that left four people dead, including a popular former college athlete.
Baltimore police detectives say on Sunday approximately 11:10 a.m., Western District patrol officers were dispatched to 2300 block of Baker Street to investigate a reported shooting. When officers arrived at the location they learned two men ages 23 and 25 were suffering from gunshot wounds. Both men were subsequently transported to area hospitals for treatment.
The 25 year-old victim was pronounced dead by hospital personnel at Shock Trauma shortly after arrival. Homicide detectives responded to the location and assumed control of the investigation.
Also happening on Sunday at about 2:00 a.m., patrol officers were dispatched to a Baltimore County Hospital to investigate a male seeking treatment for a gunshot wound. When officers arrived at the hospital they met with a 38 year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound to the hand. Citywide Shooting detectives responded to the location and assumed control of the investigation. The victim told police the incident occurred in the 2300 block of East Northern Parkway.
About an hour earlier, 1:03 a.m., Western District patrol officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of North Stricker Street to investigate reports of a shooting. When officers arrived at the scene they discovered 35 year-old male suffering from gunshot wounds. A medic was summoned and transported the victim an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
On June 7, 2019, 34 year-old Gerald Edward Brown III from Windsor Mill was murdered in the 3700 block of West Forest Park Avenue. Brown was a stand up comedian and celebrated former Loyola University basketball star. Brown is the second local star athlete this year who has become victim to gun violence in Baltimore. Loyola University's men's basketball team expressed their sorrow and tweeted Saturday, saying he was, "a prominent member of our men's basketball team and was one of the top players in school history." Mayor Jack Young called the shooting a heinous crime. So far, no arrests have been made.
Baltimore Councilman Eric Costello announced on his Facebook page a crime walk with Police Commissioner Michael Harrison and other City and civic leaders Monday evening in Hanover Square Park his district.
