Investigators say Thursday, at approximately 3:24 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 5600 block of Summerfield Avenue to investigate a reported shooting. Officers arrived at the location and observed a 43 year-old male suffering from gunshot wounds.

The victim was transported Shock Trauma for treatment. The victim was quickly identified as an off-duty Baltimore police sergeant, Isaac Carrington, who has been with the agency for twenty-two years. According to witnesses, Sgt. Carrington was standing on his front lawn speaking with a neighbor when an unknown vehicle, believed to be an Acura, pulled onto the street. At least one male who was wearing a face mask exited the vehicle, pointed a gun at the men and demanded their property.

The neighbor threw what items of value he had to the ground and took off running. Sgt. Carrington began running in the opposite direction. The gunman gave chase and shot Sgt. Carrington multiple times. The gunman got back into the vehicle at which time the driver of the vehicle drove north on Summerfield Road and then turned west onto Todd Avenue. Homicide Detectives and SIRT are investigating.

Sergeant Isaac Carrington sustained multiple gunshot wounds and underwent surgery as a result. He is currently on life-support.
