Suspect in Anne Arundel County Police Shootings Captured

Anne Arundel County Police
Joseph Willis

Two Anne Arundel detectives, Scott Ballard and Ian Preece, are now recovering after suffering gun-related injuries while investigating a murder on Wednesday.

The chain of events began with a murder of a man in a basement apartment at a home in Glen Burnie near Baltimore-Washington International Airport.  When detectives tracked down the suspect in Pasadena, he opened fire.  Police say an all night manhunt led to Thursday afternoon’s arrest of Joseph Robert Mitchell Willis, 24, of Pasadena, MD.

Willis is charged in connection with the murder of Christopher Lawrence Jones, 44, of the 600 block of Newfield Road in Glen Burnie, and in connection with the shooting / attempted murder of one of our police detectives. Willis has been charged with First Degree Murder and Attempted First Degree Murder. The investigation is on-going and additional charges will be placed.
