Former Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh sentenced to 3 years in federal prison and three years probation.
Her attorneys say they have no plans to appeal— although they have 2 weeks to do so. Pugh pleaded guilty in November to tax fraud and conspiracy charges related to scandal surrounding her ‘Healthy Holly’ book sales. Prosecutors says Pugh uses profits to funnel money to her political campaigns, earn some $800,000 for herself but all the whole evade taxes.
A tearful and trembling Pugh took the stand during Thursday’s hearing to ask the court for mercy, took responsibility and apologize for her actions.
U.S. District Judge Deborah Chesanow also ordered Pugh to pay:
-- University of Maryland Medical System $400,000 in restitution
--$12,000 to the Maryland Auto Insurance Fund
--Pugh must forfeit nearly $670,000--including her Ashburton home and $17,800 in her campaign account
