Anne Arundel County Public School leaders extend school year into mid-June

Students in Anne Arundel Public Schools will be spending a few extra days with reading, writing and arithmetic as the school district tries to account for lost instruction days due to the coronavirus.

The schools will remain in session through June 18th to account for the loss of instruction days due to the pandemic. The Board of Education adopted adjustments to the calendar that extends the school year while seeking a state waiver of the 180-day requirement for the school year. School officials say students lost ten instruction days from March 16th through March 27th when schools were closed by the COVID-19 outbreak. The district is adjusting at least five of the 10 lost days by counting some previously scheduled days off as instructional days.
