The Stories We Tell: Baltimore Visionaries -Episode 4- Safe Haven for At-Risk Youth

BALTIMORE, MD (WEAA) —  Morgan State University's School of Global Journalism & Communication's Baltimore Reporting Report presents The Stories We Tell: Baltimore Visionaries.

In this episode, host Dr. Kaye Wise Whitehead is joined by Marvin McDowell, executive director and founder of Umar Boxing located in the Druid Heights community in Baltimore City. 
 
The athletic facility provides a safe haven for at-risk youth while instilling purpose, value, determination and a desire to achieve in school.

Karsonya (Kaye) Wise Whitehead is an associate professor of Communication and African and African American Studies at Loyola University Maryland and the award-winning author of Notes from a Colored Girl: The Civil War Pocket Diaries of Emilie Frances Davis; a featured Public Commentator for WYPR and Op-Ed columnist for the Baltimore Sun; a K-12 master teacher in African American History; an award-winning curriculum writer and lesson plan developer; an award-winning former Baltimore City middle school teacher; and, a three-time New York Emmy-nominated documentary filmmaker.
Baltimore native, Micarie Kemp has always been passionate about working in the media.
