BALTIMORE (AP) — Police say three men, including an anti-violence worker, were killed in an East Baltimore shooting.
Officers responding to East Monument Street on Wednesday night found four men suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
Police say one died on the scene, two others were pronounced dead at hospitals and the fourth is expected to survive.
Police say one of those killed was a Safe Streets East worker. Safe Streets outreach workers mediate disputes in an effort to prevent violence and work to steer young people away from violence.
Mayor Brandon Scott called the shooting “a horrific tragedy,” saying that Safe Streets workers put their lives on the line “because they believe in a better future for our city.”
We lost one of our @Safestreetsbalt workers tonight, and two other residents, to a senseless act of violence. Another victim remains in critical but stable condition.
