The incident occurred Tuesday around 6:15 pm on S. Hanover Street.

According to officials, the on duty detective was operating an unmarked departmental vehicle when he was carjacked by three individuals.

Police Commissioner Michael Harrison said, at some point the detective pulled out his weapon and fired at the suspects.

The suspects were able to flee the scene at a high rate of speed before crashing and overturning the vehicle.

Trevor Gardner and the juvenile are charged with armed carjacking, armed robbery, 1st and 2nd degree assault, and various handgun violations.

Police say neither of the two reside in Baltimore City.
