Governor-elect Wes Moore to deliver Fall 2022 commencement address at Morgan State

The first Black governor of Maryland and third in the nation is set to address a graduating class of more than 500 graduates.

Maryland Governor-elect Wes Moore will be the keynote speaker for the Fall 2022 Commencement, University President David Wilson announced Friday afternoon.

Moore just concluded a historic election, becoming the first Black governor in the state of Maryland, and the third Black governor in the nation.

“We are honored to have Governor-elect Wes Moore as our fall Commencement keynote speaker. His life story is a testament to our students that success can be achieved through the journey of personal development and personal choices, which include successes and failures,” Wilson said in the press release.

Moore, the former CEO of the Robin Hood Foundation, one of the nation’s largest anti-poverty organizations, will deliver a speech to more than 500 anticipated graduates, faculty, university officials and guests.

Moore has visited Morgan’s campus on several occasions, with his last visit on Oct. 20 as a part of his Maryland historically Black colleges and universities campaign tour.

Morgan State will also be provide honorary degrees to Maryland House Speaker Adrienne Jones, and Morgan alum Melvin Miles, the beloved former band director who recently retired after 49 years.

The Fall 2022 Commencement is scheduled to take place on December 16, 2022 at 10 a.m. in Hill Field House.
