(Baltimore, MD) -- Some Baltimore City Council members want to ban the automatic installation of external gas regulators on customers' homes.
Hundreds of residents across the city have filed a class action lawsuit against BGE saying the utility forced them to allow the external regulators or risk service cuts-offs.
Councilman Eric Costello plans to introduce a bill on August 21 that would prevent the installation of external gas regulators on buildings with five or fewer units like single family homes and small apartment buildings.

Homeowners could still have the external regulators installed by signing an agreement with BGE.
Residents who oppose the regulators say they are concerned about safety and damage to their homes.
BGE says the outdoor regulators enhance customer safety and are more easily accessible in an emergency.
