House hearing on juvenile crime set for Wednesday

(Baltimore, MD) -- A Maryland House committee hearing this week could be the precursor to changes in how lawmakers address juvenile crime.

The House Judiciary Committee is set to start the process of reviewing current legislation.

Baltimore City State's Attorney Ivan Bates is seeking change and is concerned current law limits police in how they may question juveniles.

Bates believes the law is unconstitutional, and because Miranda Rights already apply in such cases; he further states a law that prevents those 13 and younger from facing some non-violent charges hinders accountability.
