Installation of weapon detection scanners underway in Baltimore schools

Baltimore, MD) -- Some Baltimore City schools are in the process of installing weapon detection scanners.

Families have received letters from school officials letting them know that all students, parents, guardians and visitors must walk through the scanners when entering school buildings.

Earlier this year the City Board of School Commissioners approved more than five-million-dollars to install the systems at 26 high schools.

The touchless scanners are ten-times faster than regular metal detectors and can differentiate between regular metal objects and weapons.

Scanners were installed Monday at Patterson and Claremont high schools.
