(Baltimore, MD) -- Much of Maryland will be under a Heat Advisory today.
The advisory covers parts of Central, Northern and Southern Maryland from noon until 8:00 tonight with the heat index in some areas expected to reach 109-degrees.
The National Weather Service says the combination of air temperatures in the 90s and high humidity could lead to increased heat-related illnesses, especially for people who are taking part in outdoor activities.
Cooling centers are being opened across the affected areas including Baltimore and Annapolis.
