BPD investigating circumstances surrounding DPW worker's death

(Baltimore, MD) -- Baltimore City Police are investigating the circumstances that led to the death of a Department of Public Works employee on Friday.

Timothy Cartwell sustained fatal injuries when he became trapped between a garbage truck and a wooden light pole in a Baker Street alleyway.

Cartwell was taken to Shock Trauma where he later died as a result of his injuries.

Cartwell's death marks the second time that a DPW worker has died on-the-job in the just over three months.

Thirty-six-year-old Ronald Silver the Second collapsed while working in the Barclay neighborhood in August and the Medical Examiner determined he died from heat-related illness.
