(Baltimore, MD) -- The Baltimore City Health Department says a Code Blue Extreme Cold Alert is in effect through Thursday.
Wind chills are projected to reach negative values, and the extreme cold could pose significant health risks to city residents that include cold-related injuries, frostbite, hypothermia and in extreme cases, the potential for fatalities.
During a Code Blue, city agencies activate services that provide shelter and assistance for those in need, including those who are homeless.
Mayor Brandon Scott is asking residents to take the proper precautions and check on their neighbors.
