BALTIMORE — The Baltimore City Board of Estimates is holding a special meeting tonight to hear public feedback on a proposal for increasing water, sewer, and stormwater utility rates. The meeting, scheduled for 5 p.m. at City Hall, comes as the Department of Public Works (DPW) seeks approval for a multi-year rate adjustment to ensure the "financial stability of the city’s aging water and wastewater systems", according to DPW's website.

The proposed adjustments include a 3.0% increase in water rates and a 15% increase in sewer rates, which would apply to all water and sewer customers in Baltimore City. If approved, the new rates would take effect on February 1, 2025, potentially raising the typical water bill for most city households by approximately 9.66%.

The department presented the proposed rates to the Board of Estimates during its December 18 meeting, requesting a vote at tonight’s session.

The public can participate in person or remotely. The meeting will be streamed live on Charm TV, and the public can also call in via Webex at (408)-418-9388, using access code 2332 649 4295. The meeting can also be viewed on Charm TV, channel 25.
