(Baltimore, MD) -- The Director of the Baltimore City Board of Elections has passed away at the age of 71.
Armstead Jones died Friday, just hours after he announced that he would be retiring effective May 1st.
Baltimore City Democratic Delegate Melissa Wells announced Jones' death to members of the House on Saturday and offering prayers for his family.
Maryland U.S. Representative Kweisi Mfume says Jones was an old school friend and real soldier who loved his job and cherished his city.
State Elections administrator Jared DeMarinis is offering condolences, sympathies and prayers to Jones' family, saying he was a dedicated public servant and inspiration.
