(Baltimore, MD) — In a heartfelt message to the Morgan State University community on Monday, President David Wilson announced the upcoming retirement of Dr. Kevin M. Banks, Vice President for Student Affairs, effective July 1st.
Joining the Morgan State administration in 2012, Banks was Wilson’s first executive hire and has served the campus for nearly 14 years.
“It is with mixed emotions that I announce the retirement of Dr. Kevin M. Banks, our long-serving Vice President for Student Affairs at our National Treasure,” Wilson stated. “Since then, he has been one of the most dedicated, passionate, and supportive leaders in the history of our Student Affairs division.”
Banks is recognized for his student-first leadership style and his unwavering presence on campus—from late-night student events to residence hall visits.
“He exemplifies student-centered leadership, often applying an ‘old-school’ approach of tough love—an approach that many students would later credit as pivotal to their success,” Wilson stated.
Under his leadership, the Division of Student Affairs expanded mental health services, improved housing processes, and launched several initiatives to enhance student safety, support, and engagement. Wilson also stated that Banks played a significant role in athletics, campus policing, and pandemic response efforts.
According to Wilson, a retirement celebration is planned for early September. Dr. Leticia Williams has been named interim vice president as a national search begins for Banks’ successor.
