Baltimore mayor releases statement regarding DHS designation as sanctuary jurisdiction

(Baltimore, MD) -- Mayor Brandon Scott has released a statement after the U.S. Department of Homeland Security listed Baltimore City as a sanctuary jurisdiction in violation of federal immigration laws.

The mayor says to be clear - Baltimore is not a sanctuary city, because it does not have jurisdiction over its jails.

He says the city follows its limited obligations as defined under federal immigration law.

The mayor says Baltimore makes no apologies however, for being a welcoming city that is better because of its immigrant neighbors, and it's not about to sell them out to the administration.

Mayor Scott says Baltimore remains committed to protecting the rights, dignity, and wellbeing of all of our residents and the city is exploring all options to protect its immigrant neighbors and the funding appropriated to the city by Congress - including litigation.
