(Baltimore, MD) -- Baltimore City is under its first Code Red Extreme Heat Alert of the summer.
The Health Department says the heat index is expected to rise above 100-degrees for the next few days and the Code Red will remain in effect through Thursday.
During the extreme heat, residents should stay hydrated, remain indoors with a working air conditioner if possible and be sure to check on vulnerable neighbors.
A list of cooling centers is posted at health.baltimorecity.gov.
Last summer, the city had 23 Code Red Extreme Heat days and recorded six heat-related deaths.
