Baltimore County police warn residents about telephone scam

(Towson, MD) -- Baltimore County Police Department are warning area residents about a telephone scam.

Police say the scammers are making calls claiming they are affiliated with the Police Department to solicit funds.

Police say the scammers often use caller ID spoofing to imitate local police precincts, but those calls are not from law enforcement authorities.

Anyone who receives a suspicious call should hang up and report the call to the FTC or local authorities.

Police say those receiving calls should never give out personal information or any payment details.
