Baltimore, MD) -- The MTA will commemorate the birthday of civil rights pioneer Rosa Parks and celebrate Transit Equity Day with free rides on Wednesday.
Transit Equity Day is observed on February 4th - the birthday of Parks who was arrested in 1955 after refusing to give up her seat on a segregated bus in Montgomery, Alabama.
Her arrest sparked legal challenges and in November of 1956, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled segregation on public buses was unconstitutional.
The free rides will be available on all services including Local Bus, Light Rail, Metro Subway, MARC Train, Commuter Bus and Mobility services.
