(Baltimore, MD) -- Mayor Brandon Scott says the city is now accepting entries for the Baltimore Screenwriting Competition.

The Mayor's Office of Arts, Culture and Entertainment says the new, expanded initiative celebrates the talent of Baltimore-based screenwriters whose stories reflect the rich culture and vast landscape of the city. David Warfield, screenwriter and professor at Morgan State University, serves on the competition’s advisory committee.

“This competition is an incredible chance for some of Baltimore’s most talented writers and aspiring filmmakers to share their stories, and showcase the best of our city,” said Mayor Brandon M. Scott. “I am especially excited that this year we have expanded this opportunity to include young creatives from across the city, providing another unique platform for them to showcase their talent, creativity, and promise. Good luck!”

“Baltimore has always been a city of storytellers! This competition creates space for writers to tell the stories that only they can tell, rooted in their neighborhoods, histories, and lived experiences. By investing in emerging and youth voices, we’re not just supporting film, we’re shaping the future of how Baltimore is seen and heard,” said Bria Sterling-Wilson, Deputy Director of the Mayor's Office of Arts, Culture and Entertainment.

The competition awards prizes in the feature film, episodic, and short film formats. The deadline for submissions is 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, March 15th.

The application and full guidelines are available online. The winners of the competition will be announced during Charm City Live 2026.
