Maryland bill to allow beer and wine sales in grocery stores debated

(Maryland) -- Lawmakers are again debating a bill that would allow grocery stores in Maryland to sell beer and wine.

Supporters rallied this week ahead of a legislative hearing on the proposal.

The plan would allow grocery stores to obtain licenses from current holders or apply through local boards.

State leaders say the measure is unlikely to pass during the current legislative session.
