(Baltimore, MD) -- Maryland and 12 other states are suing OneMain Financial over an alleged bait-and-switch lending scheme. There are 26 OneMain branches in Maryland, including one in Hagerstown.
Attorney General Anthony Brown says OneMain advertises high-cost installment loans with clear and upfront terms, but it unlawfully packs the loans with insurance policies and other add-ons without the knowledge or consent of consumers.
“We’re filing this lawsuit to hold OneMain accountable and put money back in the pockets of the people they misled", said Attorney General Brown.
The coalition is seeking restitution for consumers and a court order preventing OneMain's practices.
The coalition also wants OneMain to stop collection actions and remove negative information reported to credit agencies.
