Baltimore County Police report five-year low in homicides and shootings

By WEAA News Staff

Baltimore County recorded its lowest homicide and non-fatal shooting numbers in five years in 2025, according to newly released data from the Baltimore County Police Department.

The county ended 2025 with 28 homicides, down from 55 in 2021, a nearly 50 percent decrease. Non-fatal shootings also dropped by more than 45 percent over the same period. At the same time, the department's clearance rates for both categories reached record highs, with homicide clearance rates surpassing the national average.

The figures were submitted through the FBI's National Incident-Based Reporting System and reflect finalized end-of-year data.

"The decrease in homicides and non-fatal shootings underscores the Department's ongoing focus on prevention, community engagement, and the implementation of successful enforcement strategies," said Chief Robert McCullough. "Preventing crime and holding those responsible accountable are both essential to maintaining safe communities across Baltimore County. This work would not be possible without the dedication of our patrol officers, who are often first on scene, and our detectives, who work tirelessly to investigate these cases and bring them to a close."
