Baltimore health commissioner declares Code Red Extreme Heat Alert for Thursday, Friday

(Baltimore, MD) -- Baltimore City will be under its first Code Red Extreme Heat Alert of the season today and tomorrow.

The Health Department says the heat index is expected to rise above 100 degrees.

The extreme heat may pose significant health risks, especially for those working outdoors, older adults, young children, individuals with chronic health challenges, and pets.

Enhanced safety protocols are in place to protect city employees, particularly frontline and outdoor workers like sanitation crews, public works staff and emergency responders.

Mayor Brandon Scott encourages everyone to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activities and check on vulnerable family members and neighbors.
