Baltimore—The Maryland Office of the Attorney General's Independent Investigations Division has identified the parties involved in a fatal police-involved shooting in Baltimore.
The shooting occurred early Sunday morning, July 5, around 1:30 a.m. in the 3300 block of Clifton Avenue. Baltimore Police Department's Aviation Unit located a vehicle reported stolen in a carjacking in Baltimore County and alerted ground units. Officers stopped the vehicle and issued multiple commands to the driver. When officers attempted to break a window, they observed what appeared to be a firearm and discharged their weapons, striking the driver.
The driver, 42-year-old Maurice Daniels of Millersville, was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The weapon recovered from the vehicle was a BB gun. No officers were injured.
The officers involved have been identified as Officer Charles Blackman, Officer David Weldon, Sergeant Kevin Rivera, Officer Antonio Groomes, Officer Darrius Hicklin, and Officer Al-Shakier Drake. All are currently on administrative leave.
Officers on scene were equipped with body-worn cameras. Footage will be released in accordance with BPD and IID protocols.
