(Baltimore, MD) -- Maryland will experience unhealthy air quality today as smoke from the Canadian wildfires continues to affect the region.
The Maryland Department of the Environment says most of the state will be under a Code Red Air Quality Alert for unhealthy air, but Western Maryland will be under a Code Purple, which is very unhealthy.
At the current levels, air pollution can affect everyone, not just those in sensitive groups.
Officials say everyone should limit their time outside, avoid strenuous outdoor activity and stay in the air conditioning if possible.
Those most at risk because of the smoke include the elderly, children and people with asthma, COPD or heart disease.
