(Baltimore, MD) -- Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott says it's been more than a year since McElderry Park has seen a homicide in its Safe Streets catchment area.
There has not been a murder in the community for 403 days and the mayor says that's the kind of progress that's possible when the city invests in community and data-driven strategies.
"Safe Streets McElderry Park going over 365 days without a homicide is a testament to what is possible when we put those closest to the pain in our communities at the heart of our solutions to prevent and intervene in violence," said Scott.
Over the past year, the McElderry Park site recorded more than 358 successful mediations to de-escalate potentially violent conflicts.
The mayor calls the milestone historic and credits the Community Violence Intervention Ecosystem, which includes Safe Streets, law enforcement, prosecutors, and health partners.
