New EBT cards being sent across Maryland

dhs.maryland.gov/ebt-updates/

(Baltimore, MD) -- The Maryland Department of Human Services is rolling out new EBT cards with chip and tap technology to combat fraud and protect benefits.

The state has replaced over $51million in stolen benefits since March 2023.

Maryland is the fourth state in the country to adopt the chip and tap EBT cards, with expectations of reducing fraud significantly.

The new cards are automatically being mailed to cardholders at their address of record and old cards will be deactivated on September 30th.
