(Annapolis, MD) -- Maryland Governor Moore is responding to the Department of Homeland Security's mass deportation operations without notifying state officials.
The governor says deploying untrained, unqualified and unaccountable agents to sweep through communities and spread fear is not a public safety strategy.
Moore says such actions undermine trust between law enforcement and the people they serve.
Moore says he's heard from business leaders across the state that the immigration policies are taking legal workers out of nursing homes, scaring farmworkers from showing up to work and making the cost of everything from groceries to delivery services higher.
He says the state does not have to choose between holding violent offenders accountable and protecting constitutional rights and that Maryland can and will do both.
