For the second consecutive year, all Morgan State University Homecoming Day festivities will conclude at 5 p.m., according to Morgan State President David Wilson.
In a video posted by the university’s official Instagram account, Wilson announced several policies implemented for next month’s homecoming day.
All on-campus activities will conclude by 5 p.m. in order for the campus to be cleared by 6 p.m. All on-campus access will be limited to residential students and “essential university personnel,” during that time.
On Oct. 10, homecoming day will begin with its annual parade starting at 9 a.m.
The parade will “begin earlier and conclude sooner in order to give spectators more time to enjoy the campus and take part in the full day’s festivities,” said Wilson.
The following football game against Robert Morris University will begin at noon, an hour earlier than last year’s homecoming game.
The new policy follows the Aug. verdict of Marquis Brown, the 20-year-old man sentenced to 85 years in prison after his involvement in the 2023 shooting during the coronation for the royal court.
From 2021-2023, the Morgan community has experienced a shooting around Homecoming season. Since then, the university has enforced heightened security around homecoming week.
Wilson encouraged anyone wanting to partake in the festivities to arrive early that Saturday and to participate in the official activities.
