(Towson, MD) -- A bill introduced in Baltimore County would increase councilmembers pay by $50,000 a year from $69,000 to nearly $120,000.
The council chair's salary would also increase, and a second bill would raise the County Executive's salary.
The proposed legislation has some county residents angry, saying they're struggling paycheck-to-paycheck and it's tone deaf for the council to vote for their own salary increases.
Not all council members plan to vote for the increase.
In a statement Councilman Nino Mangione says he believes the county has other pressing needs, and council salaries should not be raised until roads are repaired, and public safety is fully staffed.
Councilman David Marks also plans to vote against the salary increase.
The council will be voting on both bills on October 19th.
