Reggae Roots and Culture Celebrates HER-Story: March 11

Reggae Roots & Culture presents special programming during the month of March, featuring women in Reggae, and women in our communities doing great works.

Guests each Saturday will include local, national and international artists, musicians, poets and authors as well as promoters who will be interviewed and their music and works featured in celebration of HER-STORY.

Reggae Roots and Culture broadcasts at 10 AM on Saturdays.

Guests for Saturday March 11:

Marcia J. Ball is a Reggae, Lovers Rock, and R&B Singer. Born in Derby, England, this singer/songwriter began her distinguished musical career at the tender age of 6. Marcia's mother was the main singer of the family. Marcia and her sisters received vocal training from their mother while providing background vocals. Marcia answers the call as one of the premier female vocalist on the Reggae Music scene.

Minister Carlene Davis is a Jamaican gospel and Reggae singer. This internationally acclaimed Gospel recording artist is one of the most dynamic music ministers coming out of Jamaica. As this Caribbean Hall of Fame Awardee testifies in song, the powerful message of God’s love flows through her, bringing hope and healing to the heart of the listener. As a secular artist, Carlene recorded and released 15 albums.

Born Kendra Scanlon, Tuff Like Iron is a fashion designer turned musician from New York. Undeniable rebrand that she is, Kindele Aixe aka Tuff Like Iron is forever inspired by her Trinidadian heritage and a truly kaleidoscopic kind of life lived between Kingston and Brooklyn. Tuff was already a fixture on the Brooklyn fashion circuit but in a beautiful turn of events, music would soon claim the spotlight.

Annette Brissett, drummer extraordinaire, was born in Jamaica and is without a doubt the single most complete and versatile female artist on the Reggae circuit. She not only writes lyrics, composes and arranges music, but sings and play all instruments. In the early 1970s, she was a drummer with the all-girl reggae band Steppin'Razor.

Irie Love was born in Kailua, Honolulu County, Hawaii. She is a Hawaiian R&B, Reggae singer and songwriter. Irie Love began singing at age thirteen. She was given the name Irie by her father, an avid reggae fan. And Love is her mother's family name. She first gained notice as one of the finalists on the "Brown Bags to Stardom" competition in Honolulu, Hawaii, in 1999.
