Forty-six members of the Baltimore Police Department’s primary plain clothes unit are being sent to patrol units. Officers are being reassigned because the operational intelligence division is being restructured following the indictments of seven officers from the gun trace task force. And, the Maryland Office of the Public Defender has set up a hotline for those with criminal convictions or pending cases that involved any of the officers facing federal corruption charges. Because each officer indicted was involved in thousands of arrests and prosecutions over the years, and their criminal acts allegedly happened on duty, their cases are suspect.
