(Overlea, MD) -- A teacher at Overlea High School allegedly tagged U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement on a social media post, offering the names of students who were excused from class to demonstrate for immigrant justice.
According to WJZ-TV, the teacher called the students illegal or children of undocumented immigrants.
Overlea Principal Dr. Monica Sample sent a letter to parents saying that school administrators recently learned about an unsettling social media post that was directed at a group of students.
Dr. Sample says the statements do not represent the school community's values and they fall outside of the acceptable practices and high expectations for staff members.
She says all policies and procedures are being followed to investigate and address the incident and the school remains committed to providing all students with a safe and welcoming learning environment.
