Man gets life in prison for attacking stranger with sword at Lexington Market Metro Station

(Baltimore, Md) — A Baltimore man has been sentenced to life in prison for slashing a stranger with a sword at the Lexington Market Metro Station in 2024.

Trillion Bryant was convicted by a jury in January of attempted first-degree murder and carrying a dangerous weapon openly.

On Aug. 16, 2024, around 7:20 a.m., Maryland Transit Authority police responded to a stabbing on West Lexington Street. The victim, a 43-year-old man who did not know Bryant, had just exited a train when Bryant blocked his path.

Officials say, the victim moved toward an exit but Bryant followed him. After a brief confrontation, Bryant pulled a sword from his backpack and attacked the victim as he fell, striking him repeatedly in the head.

A security officer near Lexington Market saw the victim fleeing and provided aid. Bryant briefly pursued the victim before walking away. He was later seen on surveillance footage entering a business on North Howard Street and leaving without his backpack and with his sweatshirt removed. The victim was taken to Shock Trauma with life-threatening injuries.

State's Attorney Ivan J. Bates said the sentence holds Bryant fully accountable for what he called a shocking and senseless act of violence against someone simply going about their day in Baltimore.

“Today’s sentence ensures that the Defendant will be held fully accountable for an act of shocking and senseless violence. The survivor in this case endured a terrifying and deeply traumatic attack that nearly cost him his life,” said State’s Attorney Ivan J. Bates. “No one should ever have to experience that kind of brutality while simply going about their day in Baltimore. We are grateful to the court for recognizing the severity of this crime and delivering a Life sentence that reflects the profound harm caused. This outcome brings a measure of justice to the Victim and sends a clear message that acts of extreme violence will be met with serious consequences.”
