Morgan State University — As the semester comes to a close, The Spokesman sat down with Jordan Gipson, Morgan State University’s 39th Mr. Morgan, for a conversation about leadership, purpose, and the path that brought him to one of the university’s most visible student roles. A junior from Atlanta, Gipson’s journey to Morgan was shaped by early setbacks. After graduating high school with a 2.2 GPA and being denied by several universities, he said arriving at Morgan became an opportunity to redefine himself, a mindset that continues to influence his leadership.
On campus, Gipson has been widely involved, previously serving as Mr. Sophomore and Mr. Junior while participating in organizations including the NAACP, Connected Through Christ, and the Rawlings program. He also launched initiatives such as the Morgan Mile run club and “Royal Cuts,” a service effort providing free haircuts and mentorship to community members in Baltimore. Beyond his campus roles, Gipson is also a father to eight-month-old twins, a responsibility he said has reshaped how he approaches time, discipline, and personal growth.
As Mr. Morgan, Gipson said his goal is to show students they are not defined by perception or past limitations. His planned initiatives include professional clothing drives, student-centered events, and efforts to expand engagement across campus.Reflecting on his time at Morgan, Gipson emphasized the importance of authenticity and perseverance, encouraging students to remain confident in their identity and purpose.
