Investigators blame propane leak for deadly blast

(Cape St. Claire, MD) -- Anne Arundel County fire investigators say last week's deadly house explosion in the Cape St. Claire community was caused by an accidental propane gas leak.

Investigators determined the homeowner accidentally cut a propane line while working on an HVAC system, allowing gas to build up inside the home.

Authorities say the gas ignited when the homeowner later used a metal grinder, triggering the explosion that killed a 76-year-old woman and severely injured the homeowner.

Fire officials also confirmed the propane company that visited the property earlier that day did not cause or contribute to the blast.
