Official: 9 out of 10 people living with chronic kidney disease aren’t aware they have it

(WEAA)— According to the Centers for Disease and Prevention, (CDC) chronic kidney disease is a condition in which the kidneys are damaged and cannot filter blood as well as healthy kidneys.

Because of this, excess fluid and waste from blood remain in the body and may cause other health problems, such as heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke and early death.

Health officials say 9 out of 10 people living with the disease aren’t aware they have it.

Tisha Guthrie, a transplant recipient and board member of the National Kidney Foundation joins Two Way Talk to discuss causes, risk factors, healthcare inequities and myths surrounding dialysis treatment.
