Baby's death ruled a homicide, City Police identify victims of weekend violence

It's been 10 months since a 2 month old baby was rushed to the hospital unresponsive. He died in September and just Friday, the Medical Examiners office has ruled the infants death a homicide. 

On November 11, 2018, just after 7 p.m., Baltimore police officers responded to Johns Hopkins Hospital about a 2 month old infant who had been brought in unresponsive.  According a statement released by the BPD, doctors told the parents of Syncere Curry, the baby boy “had no brain activity.”  The baby remained hospitalized until he died September 19, 2019. The family lived in the 1000 block of Webb Court.

Medical examiners performed an autopsy and on Friday, December 6, 2019, as detectives began investigating the case. The Medical Examiners advised that Syncere Curry had sustained multiple head injuries which his caused his death, and his death was ruled a homicide. Investigators say the case is open and ongoing.

Meanwhile, City Police released an update on the identities of weekend homicide victims:

42 year-old Purnell Murphy (B/M) was killed on December 7, 2019, while in the 1100 block of East North Avenue.   On December 7, 2019, at 8:01pm, officers were called to the 1100 block of E. North Avenue for a ShotSpotter alert. When officers arrived, they found two shooting victims. The first victim is an adult male who died from his injuries. The second victim is an adult female with a graze wound to her shoulder.

51 year-old William Scott (B/M) was killed on December 8, 2019, while in the 500 block of North Payson Street.  On December 8, 2019, at 5:27am, Western District officers responded to  a report of an injured person. When officers arrived, they found a man inside with stab wounds to his body. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

31 year-old Glen Wilson (B/M) was killed on December 8, 2019, while in the 1900 block of Griffis Avenue. On December 8, 2019, at 9:30pm, officers responded to a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they located a shooting victim. Wilson, was transported to an area hospital where he died from his injuries.

City police continue to investigate other weekend violence, including a shooting that left a man injured. Investigators say on Sunday night at 9:15pm, officers were called to the 2600 block of Madison Avenue for a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found an 18-year old man with at least one gunshot wound to his body. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment.  Also, early Sunday morning, at 1:50 a.m., officers were on patrol when they heard gunshots coming from the unit block of Guilford Avenue. Officers began to investigate and found a 30-year old man with a gunshot wound to his leg. The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
