BALTIMORE, MD (WEAA) —President Joe Biden on Thursday, signed a legislation into law declaring June 19 as Juneteenth National IndependenceDay— a US federal holiday.

Juneteenth is a celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States.

Even though the Emancipation Proclamation was signed on June 5, 1863 and Juneteenth was first celebrated on June 19, 1865, it wasn’t until the 13th Amendment of the United States Constitution was ratified on December 6, 1865, that slavery truly ended.

United States Congressman Kweisi Mfume joins guest host Anthony McCarthy to discuss his efforts in making Juneteenth a national holiday.

Later in the show, Troy Staton, a civic leader and his son Rashad Staton, a community advocate join Anthony to talk about fatherhood ahead of Father’s Day weekend.
