MINNEAPOLIS (WEAA) — A jury has found former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin guilty in the death of George Floyd.
George Floyd, a 46-year-old Black man, died last May after Chauvin pinned his knee on Floyd's neck for 9 minutes and 29 seconds as Floyd lay facedown with his hands cuffed behind his back.

Chauvin has been found guilty of unintentional second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter.
The jury deliberated about 10 hours over two days.
Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott released a statement following the verdict. The mayor says, "Regardless of this decision, more work remains to prove once and for all that Black Lives Matter in America".

Maryland Governor Larry Hogan also released a statement in response to the verdict:
The senseless murder of George Floyd served as yet another reminder that we still have a long way to go to live up to our nation’s highest ideals.
