UMAR Boxing Program provides safe-haven for youth to master athletic and educational skills

Heartscape with Cari K. is shining the spotlight on local heroes and entrepreneurs who are striving to make a positive impact in their communities and beyond. 

BALTIMORE, MD (WEAA)— Marvin McDowell, a former professional boxer and member of the Maryland Boxing Hall of Fame is the founder and executive director of The UMAR Boxing Program and Youth Development Program. 

The athletic facility, located on West North Avenue in Baltimore City, nurtures both academic and athletic excellence. 

Marvin founded the program in 1996 to provide hope and opportunity for at-risk youth.

 UMAR offers a host of programs including: boxing training for all ages, after school care, mentoring, GED services and more.
